FROM THE HISTORY OF AIR CONDITIONING

100 years ago, on April 28, 1914, the air conditioner was tassyknamaed in America. However, it should be said that the first to tassyknama a method for cooling air and regulating air flow was the French scientist Jean Chabannes. However, it was engineer Willis Carrier (now the brand of air conditioners “Carrier” bears his name) who managed to implement this idea.

Where was the air conditioner invented? In 1902, in the United States, engineer and inventor Willis Carrier first invented and assembled an industrial refrigeration machine for his printing house in New York. Interestingly, this device was not used to cool the air, but to reduce humidity in the production workshop, because high humidity was disrupting the rules of printing.

In 1915, Carrier and his associates, riding on the wave of success, opened the company “Carrier Engineering Co.” In addition, in 1922, he invented a new centrifugal refrigeration machine with a central compressor, which allowed to cool large areas. Thus, air conditioners began to appear, which became very popular and in great demand. Of course, no one thought that this was a very large device and that it would be possible to use it in the home.

For the first time, air conditioning for human comfort was installed in 1924 in the American Mall in Detroit. Sales on the first floor of this shopping center, which was always hot, suddenly increased, and for this reason, air conditioners were installed on other floors.

Air conditioners based on centrifugal technology were in great demand, especially in cinemas and other public places. So, in 1925, the Carrier company received an order to install air conditioners in the famous Rivoli Theater in New York. On the day of the launch of the new device, the cinema was filled with guests who wanted to experience the "Cool Comfort", but most of them brought paper fans with them as a backup.

The first indoor air conditioner was manufactured by General Electric in 1929 and operated on ammonia. To avoid poisoning in the room, the storage tank was installed outside the room. This device was similar to modern air conditioners. In 1931, a refrigerant harmless to humans, freon, was invented, thus “window air conditioners” became the prototype and dominated the air conditioner market for a long time.
