“TÜRKMEN ALABAÝY” EXHIBITION-CONTEST TAKES PLACE IN ASHGABAT

The “Türkmen Alabaýy” exhibition-contest has opened at the Exhibition Hall of the State Academy of Arts of Turkmenistan. The diverse exposition features creative works by young authors in various forms such as painting, graphics, sculpture, and decorative-applied arts.

This year’s showcase, held during the International Year of Peace and Trust, is inspired by significant national milestones — the 34th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence and the 30th anniversary of its permanent neutrality. As a result, many participants have sought not only to portray the beauty and valor of the Alabay — a breed whose homeland is a country thriving in peace and happiness — but also to convey the spirit of unity embodied by the Alabay as a timeless symbol of national pride and cohesion.

The gallery features works by students and faculty of the creative university, as well as students from the Turkmen State Special Art School under the State Academy of Arts of Turkmenistan, the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Construction, representatives of the Institute of Culture, and members of the Union of Artists.

According to art expert Azat Annaev, participating in the exhibition-contest helps young talents exchange experiences and learn from each other. When working alone, an artist wrestles with themselves, but a large exhibition hall gives emerging creators the opportunity to assess the space and try to integrate their art into it.

"Each work should be vivid and expressive, and also carry deep meaning. It is important that form and content are harmoniously connected," emphasizes the art expert.

Students actively employed new technologies and modern materials in their creative works celebrating the grace, strength, and courage of the Alabays.

Designers have seamlessly incorporated the image of man’s loyal companion into original lamp designs, while creators of printed materials have produced engaging collages featuring Alabays in urban settings and scenic natural corners of the country. The visual artworks present complex compositions depicting the Alabay in various roles: as a guardian of the home, a playmate for children, or a protector of flocks.

In total, 186 works are being presented at the exhibition. As tradition holds, the names of the contest winners will be announced on the eve of the celebration of Turkmen Alabay Day, which is widely observed on the last Sunday of October.
