ELDERS — A WORTHY EXAMPLE FOR THE YOUNG GENERATION

The Turkmen people, with a history spanning more than five thousand years, have always drawn wisdom from their ancestors. Respected elders serve as a living school of prudence and insight for the younger generation. They teach youth to love their Motherland, to cherish human dignity, to honor the elders, and to respect the younger ones. By urging the youth to remain loyal to the traditions of their forefathers and to grow up as patriots, our elders stand as a shining example for them.

Seeking advice and consulting with elders has been one of the time-honored traditions of our nation. That is why, in our Independent and permanently Neutral state, respect, honor, and esteem for elders are always held in the highest regard. A vivid testament to this was the awarding of the honorary title “Hormatly il ýaşulusy” to several esteemed elders during the meeting of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, which took place in the days celebrating the 34th anniversary of our sacred Independence.

The solemn celebration of the International Day of Older persons on October 1 each year in our Independent and permanently Neutral Homeland has become a noble tradition. The widespread observance of this date demonstrates that the values of respecting elders and elevating their status in society are being enriched with new meaning.
