TURKMEN DELEGATION PARTICIPATES IN INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON ACCELERATING ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING IN CENTRAL ASIA

The Turkmen delegation is participating in the international seminar titled “Accelerating English Language Learning in Central Asia,” organized by the British Council in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from October 20 to 23.

The seminar is being held at the Abdulla Avloniy National Institute for Pedagogical Excellence.

This educational event has brought together instructors from leading educational institutions, English language specialists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as international experts in English language teaching.

Turkmenistan is represented by a senior researcher from the National Institute of Education of Turkmenistan, along with experienced English language teachers from Magtymguly Turkmen State University and the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages.

The main goal of the seminar is to train national consultants from each Central Asian country who will be capable of providing professional support to their educational institutions in implementing recommendations developed during the process of improving and updating curricula.

Participants discussed key issues related to modern requirements for teacher training programs in higher education institutions for future English language teachers.

Special attention was given to the development and implementation of PRESETT — a teacher training program for future English language educators. In this context, key principles of English teacher education were examined, including professional competencies of young specialists, defining graduation requirements, and expected learning outcomes of the PRESETT program.

Discussions also focused on approaches to designing this program based on the analysis of similar existing programs, criteria for the quality and effectiveness of PRESETT, and the identification of its mandatory and elective modules, taking into account the contextual specifics and unique needs of the countries in the region.

The international seminar is expected to significantly contribute to the successful development of English language teacher education systems in Central Asia. The knowledge, recommendations, and methodological tools acquired by the participants will largely contribute to improving teaching quality, enhancing the professional potential of educators, and further strengthening international educational cooperation.
