THE 43RD SESSION OF THE UNESCO GENERAL CONFERENCE OPENED IN SAMARKAND

On the 30th of October of 2025, the 43rd session of the UNESCO General conference, the principal governing body of the organisation, opened in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. UNESCO general director Audrey Azoulay attended the opening of the forum. The delegation of Turkmenistan is led by minister of culture A. Ashyrov.

Over five thousand participants from 193 countries, including heads of state and government, ministers, scholars, and leaders in the fields of culture, science, and education, gathered in Uzbekistan to discuss pressing issues of international cooperation based on cultural dialogue and mutual understanding.

The General conference also included the election of its President, who elected Mr. Khondker Muhammad Talha, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bangladesh to France and Permanent Delegate of Bangladesh to UNESCO. Elections to governing bodies of the UNESCO and its intergovernmental and international programs were also held.

On the 28th of November, the 14th UNESCO Youth forum was held within the framework of the Conference, addressing the fight against climate change and its impacts. More than 150 young leaders from approximately 140 countries participated in the forum.

The 43rd session of the UNESCO General conference will run until the 13th of November.
