THE IMPORTANCE OF COOPERATION WITH UNESCO IN ACHIEVING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Today, the primary goal of countries worldwide is to ensure sustainable development—that is, the simultaneous maintenance of economic growth, social well-being, and environmental protection. In this regard, Turkmenistan’s cooperation with major global organizations, particularly UNESCO, a specialized agency of the United Nations, is particularly important.

As is well known, UNESCO is the United Nations’ specialized agency in education, science, and culture, whose primary mission is to promote societal development through education, develop scientific cooperation, and protect cultural heritage. Turkmenistan’s cooperation with this organization dates back to the first years of independence. Since then, our country has actively participated in UNESCO projects in education, science and culture.

As part of its cooperation with UNESCO, our country is implementing a number of projects in the areas of gender equality, the green economy, and environmental protection, which are important areas for achieving sustainable development goals. For example, developing digital opportunities in the education system and unleashing the creative potential of young people form the foundation of sustainable development. Furthermore, owing to cooperation with UNESCO, large-scale measures are being implemented to protect our country’s natural and cultural heritage. This not only contributes to the preservation of historical heritage but also serves as an important component of environmental sustainability.

This collaboration is aimed not only at developing the present but also at ensuring a happy life for future generations.
