The International University for the Humanities and Development (IUHD) held a series of events as part of the XXV Week of the Italian Language in the World (Settimana della Lingua Italiana nel Mondo) — an annual international initiative traditionally held in October in various countries around the world. The aim of this event is to promote the Italian language, history and culture of Italy, as well as to expand global cooperation in this field.
The Week of the Italian Language in the World, held under the theme “Italophony: Language Beyond Borders,” brought together diplomats, renowned Italian professors, teachers, and students from Turkmen universities. During the event, IUHD became a hub for intercultural communication — a platform for productive dialogue, academic and cultural exchange, and the development and strengthening of cooperation between the two friendly nations.
The program included insightful lectures on current topics delivered to Turkmen students and faculty by Italian professors Maria Giovanna Farci and Francesco Giommoni. The themed exhibition organized by IUHD students, dedicated to Italian culture, literature and history attracted great interest of the participants. The informative and rich exposition allowed visitors to broaden their knowledge and deepen their understanding of Italy’s cultural and historical heritage as well as its contemporary life.
During the meetings, participants discussed opportunities for developing Turkmen-Italian partnerships in the fields of science and education, interuniversity cooperation, student exchanges, the implementation of joint educational initiatives and projects, the organization of masterclasses, and the development of language training programs. In particular, there was discussion about specialized courses in Italian language and culture for Turkmen students in Italy.
It should be noted that the solemn ceremonies and initial events dedicated to the Week of the Italian Language in the World were also held at the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages. The torch of creative, cultural, and educational activities in honor of this event is set to be carried forward in other universities across the country.
The student youth of Turkmenistan are enthusiastically studying and striving to master the Italian language, which is evidence of its growing promotion and popularity in the country — a result of the policy focused on developing international cultural and educational ties. To support foreign language learning, academic exchanges have been organized, and foreign educators are invited to collaborate. For instance, an Italian professor is currently working successfully at IUHD.
The Week of the Italian Language in the World is celebrated annually in Ashgabat and is organized in cooperation with the Embassy of the Italian Republic in Turkmenistan.
This event is not only a significant contribution to the training of future specialists proficient in the Italian language, but also a wonderful opportunity for Turkmen youth to gain a deeper understanding of Italy’s history, literature, and art, and to become more familiar with the national traditions and values of the Italian people.
