WINNERS OF THE TURKMENISTAN TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP DETERMINED

A record number of participants — 210 athletes (98 boys and 102 girls) from the Ahal, Dashoguz, Lebap and Mary velayats, as well as from Ashgabat — took part in the recently concluded Turkmenistan Tennis Championship held at the courts of the multifunctional “Ashgabat” stadium. The competition was dedicated to the 34th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence.

Winners were determined in three age categories: under 12, under 14, and under 18.

In the girls’ competition, 12-year-old Nazli Hudaygulyyeva, a 7th-grade student of Ashgabat Secondary School No. 87, climbed to the top of the podium twice — winning in both the under-12 and under-14 categories. In both finals, she defeated Sakhra Garakhanova, a fellow 7th-grade student from Ashgabat Secondary School No. 90, who earned two silver medals. Notably, earlier this year, both athletes, as part of Turkmenistan’s national girls’ team, achieved a remarkable milestone in the history of domestic tennis — they secured second place at the Central Asian qualification tournament in Fergana, Uzbekistan, and, for the first time, advanced to the final stage of the ATF 12 & Under Team Competition - Central Asia for girls.

Bronze medalists were: Safiya Tribunskaya in the youngest age group and Anna Ponyatova in the under-14 category.

Among the boys, 12-year-old Yunus Annamyradov, a 7th-grade student from Secondary School No. 18 in Mary, stood on the podium three times. He won gold in the youngest age group, defeating Erkin Altyev in the final, and earned silver in the under-14 category, losing in the final to Kerimgeldi Guldurdyyev, a 9th-grade student at the Joint Turkmen-Russian Secondary School named after A.S. Pushkin.

Guldurdyyev's victory comes as no surprise. Since 2024, he has been a member of Turkmenistan’s under-14 national team. Last year, he, along with Nazar Amangeldiyev, won the doubles category at the international junior tournament Ashgabat Open. This year, he repeated that success, this time paired with Ali Geldiyev, a student of the Training School for Young Olympians, winning an international tournament for players under 14 in Thailand.

Bronze medals were awarded to Demid Ugryumov (under 12) and Nazar Amangeldiyev (under 14).

Yunus Annamyradov earned his third medal of the championship and his second silver in the doubles category, playing alongside Serdar Komekov. The winners in this category were Nazar Amangeldiyev from Ashgabat and Nazim Kasymov from Mary.

In the girls’ doubles competition, the top honors went to Aynur Annamyradova, a 10th-grade student from Secondary School No. 18 in Mary, and Jennet Charyyeva, an 11th-grade student from Ashgabat Secondary School No. 19. They defeated the Ashgabat duo of Ilima Guseynova and Leyli Esenova in the final.

In the girls’ singles under-18 category, Ilima Guseynova, a 10th-grade student at Ashgabat Specialized Secondary School No. 42, claimed victory by defeating Aynur Movlyamova in the final. Leyli Esenova took third place.

In the boys’ under-18 category, Selim Chagylov, an 11th-grade student from Ashgabat Secondary School No. 18, won the title for the second year in a row, defeating Nazim Kasymov in the final, who received the silver medal. Kerimgeldi Guldurdyyev took bronze.

Based on the results of the Turkmenistan Championship, the national junior teams in the under-12, under-14, and under-18 age categories will be formed to represent the country in international competitions.
