The football players of “Ahal” and the capital’s “Altyn Asyr” played to a 0:0 draw in the final match of the 18th round of the Turkmenistan Football Championship among the higher league club.
The game took place in Ashgabat at the Nisa Stadium.
This was already the third meeting between these key rivals competing for medals in the current national championship. In the first round-robin stage, “Altyn Asyr” achieved a narrow away victory — 1:0 — thanks to a precise strike by Ruslan Tajiyev in the 83rd minute, and in the second round-robin stage, they won on their home ground — 3:1.
Coming into this third confrontation, the teams were close to each other in the league table. Before the match, “Altyn Asyr” trailed “Ahal” by 2 points and in case of a win could overtake them and move into second place. However, this did not happen.
Thus, with each side earning one point, the rivals remained in their positions — “Ahal” with 32 points in second place after 16 games played, and “Altyn Asyr” with 30 points in third after 18 matches.
Recall that “Arkadag” leads the Turkmenistan championship with a perfect record — 57 points after 19 games.
There were no changes in the race for top scorers. The top three spots are held by players from “Arkadag”: Didar Durdyyev — 18 goals (1 penalty), Begench Akmamedov — 17 (1), and Altymyrat Annadurdyyev — 13 (1).
