Independent and permanently Neutral Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the development of physical culture, sport, the olympic movement and the strengthening of international cooperation in this area. The personal example set by our Hero-Arkadag and Arkadagly Hero Serdar inspires everyone, especially young people, to lead a healthy lifestyle and actively engage in sports and physical culture. The large-scale reforms being carried out in our country are leading to the rapid development of the national sports system, which is reaching a qualitatively new level. Many sports are growing in popularity, particularly winter sports such as speed skating and hockey.
As is well known, the first national hockey competition for the Turkmenistan President's Hockey Cup was held in 2012. Today, national championships and ice hockey competitions are regularly held in our country which testifies to the high level of development of this sport in Turkmenistan.
Ice hockey is of great interest to teenagers and young people from an early age. The modern ice arenas currently under construction ensure the accessibility of this sport. Hockey teams, created on the initiative of our Hero-Arkadag, successfully compete in national and international competitions. The achievements of our country’s champions, such as “Galkan”, “Oguzhan”, “Şir”, “Nesil”, “Watançy”, “Merdana” and “Bürgüt”, are a vivid example of this. It is also worth noting that the matches between these teams are always inspiring, memorable and productive. The international hockey tournament held in April 2024 at the Winter Sports Complex in the capital also clearly demonstrated the great interest in this sport among our youth. In these competitions, the “Galkan” team performed well and climbed onto the podium, which was significant event and further strengthened the pride of our compatriots.
