Today, the profession of translation is given special importance in the global community. This is because translation plays a crucial role not only in the exchange of information, but also in strengthening the ties of friendship and brotherhood between nations. Translating from one language to another requires not only linguistic knowledge, but also a deep understanding of the literary heritage and cultural characteristics of a people. Every year, on September 30, International Translation Day is widely celebrated around the world. The recognition of this date at the international level is based on the Resolution adopted at the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly on May 24, 2017. Since then, the day has been marked annually under a special theme, with various events being organized.
Since the emergence of linguistic diversity, the need for translators has grown so that people speaking different languages could understand each other. At first, translation was carried out orally, and later various documents, religious and scientific texts, and literary works began to be translated in writing. Thus, translation became not only a linguistic profession, but also an important social and cultural mission.
Today, the art of translation is being developed at an advanced level. The official languages of the United Nations, English, Russian, French, Arabic, Chinese, and Spanish are the most frequently translated languages.
On the occasion of International Translation Day, scientific and practical conferences, press briefings, educational sessions, and round tables are organized in different countries of the world, creating opportunities for translators to exchange experience.
Translation is a valuable profession that ensures mutual understanding among the peoples of the world, and fosters the development of culture, literature, and science. International Translation Day plays an important role in honoring this art and highlighting the significance of translators in society.
