TURKMENISTAN—UNESCO: MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL COOPERATION

In the era of the Revival of a new era of a powerful state trough the undertaking of Hero-Arkadag and the efforts of our Arkadagly Hero Serdar the cultural diplomacy of our country has been widely recognised throughout the world. Turkmenistan’s mutually beneficial cooperation with UNESCO, the United Nations specialised agency for education, science and culture, also clearly testifies to this.

In recent decades, monumental complexes located on the territory of Turkmenistan, which clearly testify to the fact that the Turkmen land was the hearth of ancient cultures and civilizations, state historical and cultural park Ancient Merv, Kunya—Urgench and Nisa, have been included in the World Heritage List of this authoritative organization.

Here, at the universal level, it can be emphasised that every people, every nation has spiritual values that have been present in its soul for centuries, millennia and are actively reflected in its daily life. This applies to the turkmen national spiritual values rooted in the depths of history. The intangible cultural heritage of turkmens is diverse in form and very deep in meaning and content. It is from this point of view that dozens of these values were included in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity as early as at the dawn of our Fatherland, thanks to the tireless efforts of our President. These efforts are aimed at fostering a sense of patriotism in the younger generation and at the same time disseminating them widely among the world community. Examples include the epic "Görogly", the national dance "Küşdepdi", the national art of carpet weaving and embroidery, the art of making dutar, national traditions of horse decoration and others.

Also, the inclusion of the Magtymguly Pyragy manuscripts in the UNESCO “Memory of the World” Programme and Turkmenistan's joining the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee on Physical Culture and Sport in November 2023 clearly demonstrate that our permanent neutral state is developing mutually beneficial relations with this authoritative international structure on an increasingly broad and multifaceted scale.

To date, more than a thousand historical and cultural monuments have been discovered on the territory of Turkmenistan. This is a proud fact, testifying to the fact that mutually beneficial relations will continue.
