TURKMENISTAN — UNESCO: REMARKABLE OUTCOMES OF LONG-STANDING COOPERATION

In the era of the Revival of a new epoch of a powerful state, our country attaches particular importance to developing partnerships with United Nations agencies, including the UNESCO. Since becoming a full member of UNESCO in 1993, Independent and Permanently Neutral Turkmenistan has been steadily strengthening its cooperation with this esteemed international organization.

Over the years, Turkmenistan has achieved significant progress in implementing UNESCO’s goals and objectives, as well as in enhancing its cultural, educational, and scientific potential. A vivid testament to these achievements is the inclusion of several of our national treasures in the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage List and the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

It is a matter of great pride that such outstanding historical and cultural monuments of our beautiful Homeland as Ancient Merv, Kunya-Urgench, and Ancient Nisa have been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Currently, large-scale work is underway in Turkmenistan to nominate additional national treasures for inclusion in UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, signaling the continued expansion of this distinguished register.
