BROAD PARTNERSHIP WITH UNESCO

In the era of the revival of a new epoch of the revival state, under the wise leadership of Arkadagly Hero Serdar, significant initiatives were implemented in Turkmenistan during the International Year of Peace and Trust, through which the country’s historical monuments, national crafts, and carpet products have earned a distinguished place on the UNESCO World Heritage List. With its rich history and unique culture, Turkmenistan actively collaborates with UNESCO in various fields, including the preservation of cultural and natural heritage, as well as the development of education and science.

Turkmenistan possesses a substantial number of monuments that reflect the country’s cultural and historical heritage. Among them, the city of Merv holds a special place, housing several sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Merv was a key cultural and trade center along the Great Silk Road, and the archaeological discoveries from this region continue to attract the attention of researchers and visitors from around the world.

Turkmenistan is committed to protecting its natural environment, where regions such as the Karakum Desert provide essential habitats for vulnerable and endangered species of plants and animals. The conservation of these natural areas is of strategic importance, and Turkmenistan’s cooperation with UNESCO in this field represents a significant contribution to global efforts to safeguard the environment.
