Turkmenistan and UNESCO strengthen partnership in education

On August 28, 2025, a meeting between representatives of Turkmenistan and UNESCO was held at the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan. Deputy Minister of Education Azat Atayev held talks with the Director of the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education Tao Zhan, as well as with HIV and Health Advisor Tigran Yepoyan and Artificial Intelligence Specialist Tatyana Murovana.

On the Turkmen side, representatives of the relevant departments of the ministry took part in the discussion, who presented Turkmenistan's priorities for the modernization of the education system.

During the meeting, the parties emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership for the development of modern educational technologies and the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The discussion concerned the digitalization of education, the introduction of innovations and the advanced training of teaching staff. UNESCO proposed a number of new initiatives, including the development of educational infrastructure, training teachers to work with AI and using it to assess knowledge. The issues of promoting the concept of ‘lifelong learning’ and the introduction of intelligent bot systems in universities were also touched upon.

Special attention was paid to health and education projects. UNESCO proposed to expand cooperation on initiatives aimed at developing a healthy lifestyle among schoolchildren, strengthening ties between parents and children, and developing relevant skills among the younger generation.

The meeting confirmed mutual interest in further deepening the partnership, which will contribute to the creation of an advanced digital educational environment and improving the quality of education in Turkmenistan.
